Excerpt from Genesis Game Guide by The Scribe

NAME: Tetris
AUTHOR/VENDOR: Pageantsoft/Dr. Pepper Studio
RELEASED: 1989
TYPE: Puzzle
LANGUAGE: English

PREMISE: Groups of falling blocks in various sizes and colors fall
down to the bottom of a 2D well. Your goal is to keep
the well from filling up as long as possible. You can
slow the filling progress by steering the falling block
so that a row of four blocks with matching colors is
created - thereby making them go away and causing the
blocks above them to fall farther down the well. Ported
from the classic 8-bit original created by Alexi Patijoy
and originally released by Spectrum Holobyte.

IMPRESSIONS: I don't have to tell you what a thoroughly addictive game
Tetris can be. Addictive and highly recommended. (Rage
                  Games)

A simple but famous game on genesis.
this game is most welome by people who haven't touch TV games at all(include my mother:-), as the game play is too easy.

The game play is,(I think no body shold read this paragraph:-),anyway, just a line okay!) just to control the falling of blocks, so that a line would be clear when there are a line with full of blocks. To win, keep the area clear. The block would go down faster and faster when your level up.

To compare this game with other Tetris:
This game with a quite interesting story, when you go up one level, the background would change according to the earth time line (from prehistoric, to future world.)
There are another mode in the game, some functional block would comes, if you can make a line with it, you would gain bonus, such as up one level, or clear all lines covered of that shape of blocks.
The graphics here is acceptable, as the cartoon is not necessary to go with this game.

There are a 2players mode, perhaps, it just let's two players to play their own game, no competitive elements is there (e.g. add another a line)

For the ending, may be this game have no ending, i tried the game with emulator, the level only can increase to ~19, that even the level-increase function blocks doesn't work.
I look forward for replys here who complete the game!:)

What's the deal with this game? No boxart to be found across the web, no scans of carts, it's not being sold on Ebay. The 1 person I've spoken to that owns it says it's just a cart with the label torn off, with a piece of masking tape in the labels place that says "tetris".

The publisher and developer have no other games credited (that I can find).

Was this game REALLY released on the Genesis? Or is it some kind of strange bootleg that's floating around?

This Japanese website has some more information regarding the Megadrive's pirated version of the famously adictive game!

A few months back there was a copy of this [legit-looking] listed on Yahoo Japan. The price was obscenely high, and nobody bought it, but I took the liberty of mirroring the auction page, pictures and all. Check it out here. Looks legit to me...the product number even fits a hole in Sega's numbering (G-4007). Nearest I can tell, it suffered a fate similar to Tengen Tetris...Sega had the Japanese arcade rights, but BPS had the Japanese home version rights, so they were able to get it pulled, leaving a scant few copies in the hands of collectors and unwitting gamers. In any event, it's a terrible version of Tetris. Especially the music...
