Excerpt from Genesis Game Guide by The Scribe

NAME: Zero Wing
AUTHOR/VENDOR: Toaplan
RELEASED: 1991
TYPE: Shooter
LANGUAGE: English and Japanese

PREMISE: An alien being known only as CATS has disabled an Earth
exploratory cruiser, leaving it helpless in deep space.
Fearing a further attack that could result in the loss
of his ship, its captain orders every space fighter on
board armed and launched to deal with any unwelcome
visitors that CATS might send along....

IMPRESSIONS: Moderately playable shooter. The ability to catch and
toss around enemy ships with a tractor beam is a nice
innovation, but limited power-ups and awful ship designs
hurt this title. All texts are in English, but they're
                  so poorly translated that they're hilarious - I haven't
laughed so hard in months! (Rage Games)

Yes, it was a bad translation, and Gaiares from Telenet was much better as far as gameplay. I'm sick and tired of hear "All your base belong to us," most people who say it don't know where it's from. It has become quite annoying, so much that I'd like to put a crossbow bolt through the master cartridge.

All your base are belong to us...
if nothing else, this game spawned one of the funniest joke video clips of all time and deserves great kudos for such a feat, etc, etc...

I own this game, but haven't got use of a scanner to upload the cover for it though. Anyway, the game isn't very good and in my opinion very difficult.

Something that may be of intrest is the paragraph on the back of the box:

"Cats, the leader of a band of swashbuckling space pirates, is terrorizing the galaxy. You must pilot the only remaining Milky Way attack craft into combat and stop Cats and his buccaneers"

Anyway, I'm happy as I bought a second hand copy from Gamestation for £3 a few weeks ago and just for the "I have this" value its worth it.

What does "all your base are belong to us" mean? I've heard things about it, but I don't get how it got it's publicity and what it's supposed to mean.

If you want to own it because of what it spawned, then go for it. If you want a decent R-Type clone, go for Thunderforce 4.

I am so sick of seeing every shooting game being called a clone beacuse it isnt R-type. * r-type. How do you like that.?

This game is ok. To easy. The only way to play it is but turn the rapid off and put it on hard and it becomes a good game. "and awful ship designs hurt this title" my ass.
