NAME: Risky Woods
AUTHOR/VENDOR: Electronic Arts
RELEASED: 1992
TYPE: Action
LANGUAGE: English

PREMISE: For centuries, mystic monks have guarded the wisdom of
the Lost Land. Now that the evil Draxos and his legions
have turned the monks into stone, the darkness is free
once again to roam unchecked. It is up to you, the
young warrior Rohan, to stop it. Enter the Risky Woods,
find the monks, and free them from their petrified
                  captivity. (Electronic Arts)

IMPRESSIONS: This has all the trappings of one of those top-notch
Psygnosis games, but something seems missing somewhere
that I can't quite put my finger on. All in all, it
just doesn't impress me as well as does Psygnosis fare.
Even so, just missing that comparison makes it heads and
shoulders above most other such games.

VARIATIONS: Draxos (European release)

This game is basically a harder version of Blades of Vengence. I am almost 100% sure the same game engine was used since Risky Woods looks just like Blades of Vengence. It is your typical hack n slash platformer. The graphics are nice but the soundtrack is what I think is missing. The Scribe says it isn't typical Psygnosis fare and it is the music which is lacking from them on this one. Also the levels are designed in such a way there there is really little movement from your character so many times your hit by the enemies and there seems like nothing you can do to prevent it. It is much more or a challenge over Blades of Vengence. Also the magic system in this game works on a better principle. Too bad it doesn't always seem to work quite right. You basically use your magic with a combo of the Joystick in one direction and then using a button to activate it. Kind of hard to get used to at first but it does make casting much easier. It is worth the money I paid at only 3.99 so I would give it a 7.

Risky Woods was a game originally programmed and developed for Amiga by Zeus Soft or Dinamic (spanish company). It was a success and was ported to Pc, atari St and finally to genesis by others team (from england? ) . But in Spain is knowed for being the first spanish game in a videoconsole (since then, there were only in other platforms like Spectrum, Msx, Amiga, amstrad or C64 )

Like any other games, the Amiga version had better music, different clothes and some effects that here were missed, but it's an average game, difficult but not impossible (ei, If I can do it, you can do it ;) ) , graphics had colors and so...

The only thing that it's a bit dissapointing is the control especially when you must jump.
