Excerpt from Genesis Game Guide by The Scribe

NAME: Sub Terrania
AUTHOR/VENDOR: Zyrinx
RELEASED: 1993
TYPE: Shooter
LANGUAGE: English

PREMISE: Aliens have invaded a vital subterranean mining colony.
Fly a prototype fighter through impossible caverns to
rescue miners and blast the aliens into the darkest pits
                  of space! (box promo)

IMPRESSIONS: Having to constantly fight gravity (like in Lunar Lander)
can get annoying when you have to worry about enemies
shooting at you as well. Not a true shooter per se, so
it won't necessarily appeal to shooter fans - or anyone
else, for that matter. (Rage Games)

Ack, don't listen to the stupid comment, a truly great game! (Score: 1)

Obviously the person who reviewed this game didn't play Solar Jetman by rare back in the day on nes. That game was great, but a little on the hard side with it's gravity! Sub Terrania is basically what I'd like to call a followup, but better. I classify it as an action shooter. go check it out, I'd give it a 9.

Is this game weird or what? I mean, who thought up such an idea for a game? It's not a bad game, it just seems very odd. Very hard as well as I recall. I don't think I've ever actually beat this one. Got to the final boss, but failed miserably. I oughta fire this one up on Genecyst and let the save-states work their magic for me.

I disagree with Hiryu...

Having played and loved solar jetman

comparing this game to it is an insult

while they both have the same idea of

fighting gravity with your ship, Solar

Jetman was actually FUN

this game is way too hard to be fun

This game should be redone in 3d! This game was wicked back then. And if you just look at the title screen and you look at the 3d textures, you know they went all out on this game. Secondly, this game was not hard...i beat it and it was well worth the effort...If you think its hard dont bother playing games...its just a challenge

Zyrinx, producers of Hardwired/Red Zone, did it again with this interesting shooter, like Solar Jetman, Lunar Lander, or Asteroids. The 3-Dish graphics are a nice touch (one of the things the company did with most of their genesis games, I might add!) but the game is pretty tough. Overall, a cool shooter.

I enjoyed the gameplay, graphics and music of this game. I too had a hard time getting used to the physics of this game at first, but by level 3 I was whipping shitties and using my forward momentum to evade enemy fire. I find myself craving the gameplay after I havent played it in a while. Once you get the hang of it, it's really fun! I wish there was a level editor, so I could try new areas.

aah i remember this one well; excellent difficulty (pretty hard to learn but very satisfying) . i never finished the game (got to level 7 or something .. cant remember) but i feel that it is possible.

very interesting levels! and rescuing those little workers was so fun.. also the later levels have this very organic look, with half of the level submerged. the music is very sophisticated in those ones.

and the introduction was excellent too- not just graphically.

a true professional and artistic beauty, for skilled games
