Excerpt from Genesis Game Guide by The Scribe

NAME: NBA Jam series (3 titles)
AUTHOR/VENDOR: Sculptured Software/Midway/Acclaim
RELEASED: various
TYPE: Sports (basketball)
LANGUAGE: English

PREMISE: The arcade basketball sim that has since become the stuff
of legend. Hardware was somewhat limited when this game
was being developed, so the programmers opted to reduce
the number of players in order to allow up to four people
to play the game at the same time without having to worry
about what any computer-controlled players were doing.
A wise move, in retrospect, as this was quite popular in
its day and spawned a number of sequels and ports. The
chief programmer was one Steve Snake, better known
nowdays as the author of the KGen G/MD emulator and the
brains behind the classic Sega game collection known as
                  the Sega Smash Pack.

IMPRESSIONS: Two-on-two basketball, without having to worry about
things like fouls and the laws of gravity. Seriously,
though, the pure action approach can be appealing even
if you're not a basketball fan. Up to four players
                  supported. (Rage Games)

VARIATIONS: NBA Jam (1993, the original and rather limited port of
the arcade game, and the only one that includes
                    legendary NBA player Michael Jordan)
NBA Jam - Tournament Edition (1994, has bigger team
rosters, more hidden characters, and court hotspots)
College Slam (1996, a somewhat enhanced version of NBA
JAM TE featuring top college teams - the best in the
series, according to original programmer Steve Snake)

This game was ported to almost every major home console
in production during the late 1990s. It is Steve Snake's
considered opinion that the 32X port is the best, and
that the Sega CD port is among the worst. See separate
entries in the respective sections for more detais.

Ok here was a game that came a day late and a dollar short!...if It would have been released along side one of the big brothers then, possibly, just maybe someone would have taken the time to sit down and play this one! They also had a code to turn yourself into a tornado!

it was fairly simple although i cannot remember the exact method it was while the game was running you had to have possession of the ball and make (I think) 3 clockwise circles with your d-pad then presto tornado alley!!!

seems to be a more ugly game that was made from the scraps of nba jam, in short its just a de-graded version overall but if you like college teams then am sure it will entertain.

5/10 not very hot and only a u.s release

Nearly perfect port (as close as Genesis gets) the one thing that I wish were done on this version was the Scaling the size of the player up and down like the arcade (32x does this efficently)

here is a code!
Hidden players:

Enter one of the following initials and hold Start

while the third initial is highlighted. While holding Start,

press the indicated button. The corresponding player will appear

on the team selection screen on any team selected.

Player Initials Button
Scruff ROD B

another great further improvement on the orginal, more extreme dunks and moves and gameplay also nice menu system too.
but if you have a 32x buy the 32x version even closer to the arcade port with its scaling and sound and graphics and just a bigger feeling

9/10 great game well worth hours of your life :D

Back in the days of Genesis VS SNES, NBA JAM came out on both systems at about the same time. The game was pratically the same on both systems (well, there are some color and sound differences), but one major difference was the saving method. On the SNES, they opted to use a pain-in-the-butt password system where the Genesis had battery backup. Because of this, I remember reading posts on newsgroups saying they had chosen the Genesis version.

Five words: The Best Basketball Game Ever

Brilliant game, good fun, if you have the TE version and a multitap it is brilliant for all 4 players at the same time.

This is a SUPER fun game for multiplayer. Not only that, but one of the men I respect most (Mr. King Snkae) is actually IN the game.

How to get Mr. Snake (Take directly from The Dump)

Answer YES when asked if you want to enter your initials for record keeping, from there:
1. Move the cursor over the G, then hold Start and press the A button.
2. Move the cursor to the O, hold Start and press C.
3. Finally, move the cursor to the F, hold Start and press B.
