NAME: Blades of Vengeance
AUTHOR/VENDOR: Beam Software/Electronic Arts
RELEASED: 1993
TYPE: Action
LANGUAGE: English

PREMISE: Beam Software's stab at a Rastan clone has you playing
your pick of three fighters (valkyrie, barbarian, wizard)
as you side-scroll your way through hordes of enemies on
a mystic quest for the usual bearded deity.

IMPRESSIONS: A fantasy-themed platformer that rises above the crowd
due to its excellent graphics and sound. It's too bad
that the gameplay is only passable at best. Think of it
as a 2D Golden Axe, and you'll begin to get the picture.

Good graphics, pretty good sound, and 2/3 of the characters are well designed. The game however lacks a certain playablity and is just too damn hard. I've gotten to the second boss and that's it, this game takes expert timing and execution. Most of the time I don't have that type of patients while playing a video game.

This is one game where it's actually better to go ahead and play alone. The two player mode has some bugs and disadvantages.
