PREMISE:          Port of an eye-catching Amiga shooter, itself inspired by
                  one of the early hit shooter games for that beloved
                  computer system.  Written by the same programmers as the
                  original, the legendary Bitmap Brothers, who would go on
                  to create other titles like Gods and The Chaos Engine.

IMPRESSIONS:      I didn't like this as much as I did the first Xenon,
                  although I will admit that game control is improved
                  considerably.  The Genesis-rendered music is downright
                  horrid when compared to the Amiga original, but the
                  gameplay is still there for those who care.

As a devoted Xenon 2 player on the Amiga I jumped on this port for my much abused Genesis.
The music is dreadful as it says but I found the scroll rate and game speed a lot smoother than the PC or amiga version.

With the multiple powerups and the shop at the halfway & end stage of each level it doesn't take long to build up a killer ship (I especially recommend the lazers for total destruction.).

Quite frankly, if you've ever felt the need for some mindless blasting this is the one for you.

For more bitmap brothers action try Chaos Engine, Speedball 2, Magic Pockets and Gods

I remember the scandal this one caused too...when the company Mirrorsoft (which held all the rights to the Bitmap Brothers games) folded, and Virgin were in the middle of a deal with them or something...anyway, there was a huge public uproar from gamers when it seemed like these games weren't going to come out...

Anyway, Xenon 2 is probably the best horizontal shooting game on the MD/G.
