Excerpt from Genesis Game Guide by The Scribe

NAME: Bubsy series (2 titles)
AUTHOR/VENDOR: Accolade
RELEASED: various
TYPE: Platform
LANGUAGE: English

PREMISE: Bubsy is a smart-aleck bobcat (sans pants, of course) who
seems to spend most of his time running around and
dealing with the various platform pratfalls and arcade
antics that compose his strange little life.

IMPRESSIONS: According to Harry Tuttle of the The Dump, Accolade spent
a lot of time and effort developing and promoting what
was to be the ultimate Sonic clone. In short, it was
overly long in development and overly short in gameplay.
The first game has loads of cheap shots, and the whole
point seems to be to see the ultracool death sequences.
The second game is more balanced and even takes a stab at
a pseudo-3D element, but why couldn't Accolade get it
right the first time? Oh, yea - gotta make money. A sad
footnote in the history of Sonic clones.

VARIATIONS: Bubsy - Clawed Encounters of the Furred Kind (1992, the
first and worst of the series in terms of gameplay -
frequently referred to simply as Bubsy the Bobcat)
Bubsy 2 (1993, Bubsy explores the hyperdimensional
mansion from hell - not as easy to get killed now, but
                    still rather silly)

This game is an OK way to kill an hour or so...also, in the UK it was pressed on two different cartridges, one was the longer, harder-to-get-out original Accolade one and the other was the typical cartridge. It was also released in a double pack with Sonic 2. This retailed for about forty pounds in 1993-4.

It's a good game, of course that it isn't better than the great Sonic. Is fun up to certain point, since you dead with the first touch, and this is easy because the cat runs too much sometimes. This makes the game a quite difficult, but is fun.

A decent enough game, tends to get frustrating at times due to the cheap hits and 1 hit kill.
Compared to other platformers it not bad, but not thats good either.
Check it out if youve played through the sonic series one to many times.

dont trust the crappy scribes, this game is actually fun to play. also, its no sonic 'clone' you spend more time jumping than running! in fact its rare that you even end up gaining so much speed because of all the obstacles, and its also fun and challenging! i give it an A!

I'm sorry, I have to go with my gut, and my gut says bubsy is just plain horrible. It plays very VERY badly, which strips it of any kind of play value.

Another Sonic clone? Sadly, yes. This one isn't even fun, unfortunately, sporting dull, muddled gameplay and odd level design. The graphics and sound suffer as well, by trying a bit too hard to imitate Sonic. Not quite as bad as Aero the Acrobat, a fellow Sonic clone, but it's up there.

Ive played a lot of games like this.. but it seems all they do is change the powerup image, and the image of the character... but the story in the manual is decent

I hate this game. It has annoying music, and the gameplay is stupid. This game is a real stinker.
