Mall Rats

Excerpt from Genesis Game Guide by The Scribe

NAME: Mall Rats (unreleased)
AUTHOR/VENDOR: ?
RELEASED: 1995 (planned)
TYPE: Action
LANGUAGE: English

PREMISE: Based on the movie of the same name starring Ben Affleck
and Shannon Doherty about two slackers who, having lost
their girlfriends, engage in all sorts of odd and unusual
antics at the local shopping mall in order to win back
their hearts. Sounds stupid, yes, but the movie turned
out to be a minor hit and a stepping-stone in the career
                  of Ben Affleck.

IMPRESSIONS: This never made it past the concept stage to the best
of my knowledge, and I'm so glad that it didn't. What
little I know points to an SNES-style Beavis and
                  Butt-head run-and-jump.

as I understood it, they were going to make a jay and silent bob video game that had nothing to do with mallrats....

A better game would have been Dogma. And Dogma would be a fighting game.

And a bonus level in Mall Rats should have been Silent Bob flying through the food court for 1-ups and such.

I would have lived my whole life in peace and happiness, but nnnnoooooooooooooooo I have to HEAR...not see or play HEAR ALONE about a game?! A halfbaked idea of a game. I have tons of ideas for games (and the resources to implement them ) yet I dont say nor post a thing about a could be game. I hope my time and everyone else's time is never wasted by such miandering thoughts again.

while i strongly suspect this game would have been a huge disappointment had it actually gotten made, the thing that makes me most curious about it is, who was it that was in talks to develop it? was this just a really strong rumour...? how far did production get before they gave up?

Hmm...as game shows make poor video games, you have to wonder about "Truth or Date"...

This game was probably scrapped because the film bombed so badly!

I'm just curious as to why ths game has gotten the most hits out of all of them, and the messages are mostly negative...

Speaking of Ben Affleck, he was on Larry King Live last night, and he sounded like he wanted to run for political office!

Ack, the premise written here is all wrong!!! The movie did not star Ben Affleck! He played a minor role as an asshole date rapist. I loved this movie and Clerks and the movies that followed after it. Kevin Smith rules. Now I know I'm glad Mallrats wasn't turned into a game. I don't like movie to game conversions, rarely, and I do mean rarely are they any good. Now Beavis and Butthead for genesis was a good game surprisingly. I don't really think they could have had the humor found in the movie in the game. Though Kevin Smith did like sega games, namely hockey :)
